Zsófi studied applied mathematics at Eötvös Loránd University (B.Sc.), then computational and cognitive neuroscience at Budapest University of Technology and Economics (M.Sc., Ph.D.). She is deeply inspired to formalize individual differences in information-processing. Her doctoral thesis focused on the relationship between visual processing and personality traits that are pronounced in clinical conditions associated with atypical sensory experiences (schizophrenia, autism). She first joined the lab for a collaborative work on testing the temporal stability of computational parameters describing behavior on a cognitive task. Currently, as a postdoctoral fellow, she investigates the contribution of inhibitory neurons in biologically inspired deep generative neural networks (hierarchical VAEs) and supervises student work on PTSD-like memory encoding of surprising aversive events due to statistically optimal information-compression mechanisms. In her free time, she studies languages, loves to visit visually stimulating places (like nature or galleries) and plays the violin in the St Stephan Youth Symphonic Orchestra.
